The new Sunn O))) record is majestic, sombre organs and Trumpets and Atilla's unique vocals combine to sound like an unholy call to prayer in "Why Dost Thou Hide Thyself In Clouds" before crushing ambient guitars rise up throughout the course of 'Cannon' constantly underpinned by the menacing bass. Sunn O))) have often been accused of making music purely for the muscian, and while perhaps the music doesn't make sense when analysed within a traditional music context, for me it goes beyond that into a sound that can only be felt.

Third year is hectic, to the point that I actually feel really guilty about the fact that I'm currently sitting here drinking tea and eating biscuits having gotten out of bed just before 11. Saying that I havn't been sleeping particularly well, possibly due to the fact that our apartment is rather warm even with the heating switched off in fact I don't think we've turned the heating on since we've been here, who says double glazing doesn't work? I chanced the loud noises last night and opened my bedroom window which was great...until a builder and his friend starting working just outisde my window and talking loudly about payrates and a friend of his who gets paid around 700 a week, yes it was that loud.

Reading the guardian lately has been a little bit like reading revelations, if it had been updated to talking about the end of days in terms of economic troubles granted there may be troubles ahead but all other news seems to have taken a back seat even the looming american election. Saying aside from all the doom and gloom there have been some interesting predictions made about the future of the global markets, which some have indicated could belong to China, Russia, Brazil and India, and I having seen the effects of globalization first had during my placement I can say it's a not an altogether unlikely future.

Working for the student radio station, has recently added to my list of commitments as well as contributing to a show, I recently joined the exec which is a mixed blessing while it's nice to help shape the fortunes of the station theres always politics in student societies even in the fairly liberal media areas and with friends involved in this particular society it's become increasingly difficult to remain unbiased in some of the debates we have, and lately since there seems to be so much transition going on there has been a lot to be discussed.

One of the seemingly more controversial transitions has been live events featuring DJ's and occasionally bands, one of which I DJed I havn't actually DJed anywhere in (maybe in years?) so it was a pretty different but despite the low attendance it was pretty cool, I seem to be building a reputation for being one of the more avant garde/depressing dj's out there due to the fact that my radio show usually flits between moody electronica/folk/psych/exp rock and punk rock, so I though I'd add even more confusion to the mix and play a set consisting of shouty indie rock/electro/rock re-edits and towards the end punk rock, it went down...interestingly, in my head when I played "orchestra of wolves" by gallows as my last song I was expecting crowds to join me in shouting the refrain "the hardest thing you'll ever learn is to be loved and loved in return" before I vaulted over the booth and crowd surfed my way out of the venue. What actually happened was remaining people leaving, Rock N' Roll. I was still plenty of fun and hopefully I'll get the opportunity to do it again sometime.
